FAQ

Who is the team behind Cayaba Care?
We are a multidisciplinary care team, designed to build bridges and reduce barriers. At the center of the care model is a Maternity Navigator, underscoring that great care is ultimately facilitated by human-to-human interactions, augmented by an app that facilitates 24/7 access to care.

Our team of OBGYNs, Nurse Practitioners, Family Support Specialists, Lactation Consultants, Licensed Nutritionists, Insurance Experts, are all available to provide the individualized support how and when you need it.

Cayaba Care does not replace your OB or Midwife, but serves as an extra layer of support.
What services does Cayaba provide?
  • Connection to a personal Maternity Navigator and care team that supports your prenatal, birth and postpartum journey. We are your go to resource for any questions, concerns and milestones you may have in-between your regular OB/midwife visits.
  • We do not replace your OB/Midwife, we work with them to support you throughout your journey as a wrap-around layer of care.
  • Easy access to additional obstetric providers and nurses to answer questions, provide personalized education, and focus on your overall health and wellness.
  • Coordinate and provide lactation, nutrition, doula, and family social support based on your personal needs.
  • Provide assistance with in-home postpartum recovery and infant care that can involve your whole family.
Who will be my Maternity Navigator?
Your personal Maternity Navigator will be your go-to contact throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. You can meet with them at your home or reach them via video call, regular call, or text 24/7. They are your main connector to the rest of your Care Team and are assigned to you typically by location (the ones closest to your home).
  • Locally based from within your community
  • Certified doulas trained in prenatal, birth, and postpartum care
  • Can provide you expert help with insurance, appointments, and resources
  • Empathetic, great listeners, and judgment free
  • Many of them are fellow moms!
What is a doula and how can they help me?
Doulas provide non-medical support to pregnant people and their families before, during and after childbirth. This support can help families handle the physical, emotional and practical issues that surround childbirth. Doulas are trained to point you to evidence-based resources, so you can stay informed and empowered throughout your pregnancy and birth.

Studies have shown that doulas can help cut back on time spent in labor, reduce a mom's and/or coach's anxiety, lower the rate of medical interventions (including C-sections), improve mother-baby bonding post-birth and reduces instances of postpartum depression. Additionally, people who use doulas often report having a more positive pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experience.

Talking about cost: It’s important to know that ordinarily doulas are not covered by health insurance or Medicaid in most states. Depending on where you live, hiring a birth doula can cost between $500 and $2,000 out-of-pocket. Our Maternity Navigators are all licensed and credentialed doulas - meaning that by registering for Cayaba Care you gain the full range of doula support services paid for by your health plan at no additional cost to you.

In the spirit of Reproductive Justice, defined by SisterSong as “The human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities,” Cayaba Care is committed to caring for and supporting our employees, patients, and community partners with compassion and respect.

We believe in patient-centered reproductive care. Our guiding principle is that we support patients through their personal medical decisions, including abortion. We provide comprehensive medical information and counseling based upon patients’ medical needs, free of judgment or personal bias.

We are unfortunately very familiar with the fact that Black and Brown communities and those with limited financial resources are disproportionately burdened and harmed when there are constraints placed on care. Access to safe, equitable healthcare is a human right and abortion and birth control are part of comprehensive healthcare.
