Doulas provide non-medical support to pregnant people and their families before, during and after childbirth. This support can help families handle the physical, emotional and practical issues that surround childbirth. Doulas are trained to point you to evidence-based resources, so you can stay informed and empowered throughout your pregnancy and birth.
Studies have shown that doulas can help cut back on time spent in labor, reduce a mom's and/or coach's anxiety, lower the rate of medical interventions (including C-sections), improve mother-baby bonding post-birth and reduces instances of postpartum depression. Additionally, people who use doulas often report having a more positive pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experience.
Talking about cost: It’s important to know that ordinarily doulas are not covered by health insurance or Medicaid in most states. Depending on where you live, hiring a birth doula can cost between $500 and $2,000 out-of-pocket. Our Maternity Navigators are all licensed and credentialed doulas - meaning that by registering for Cayaba Care you gain the full range of doula support services paid for by your health plan at no additional cost to you.
In the spirit of Reproductive Justice, defined by SisterSong as “The human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities,” Cayaba Care is committed to caring for and supporting our employees, patients, and community partners with compassion and respect.
We believe in patient-centered reproductive care. Our guiding principle is that we support patients through their personal medical decisions, including abortion. We provide comprehensive medical information and counseling based upon patients’ medical needs, free of judgment or personal bias.
We are unfortunately very familiar with the fact that Black and Brown communities and those with limited financial resources are disproportionately burdened and harmed when there are constraints placed on care. Access to safe, equitable healthcare is a human right and abortion and birth control are part of comprehensive healthcare.
